The Students Schools Refer to Us

Tutor Doctor works with primary schools, secondary schools, multi-academy trusts, PRUs, and alternative provision settings across the UK. Schools come to us when a student’s needs go beyond what standard provision can offer. The referrals we receive are varied — but the underlying need is usually the same: a young person who requires something more personalised, more consistent, or more flexible than the school can provide alone.

Typically that means students with SEND or EHCP targets requiring specialist tuition, pupils who are unable to attend and need a gradual pathway back into education, students with SEMH needs whose engagement has broken down, looked-after children who need continuity through placement changes, or Year 11 pupils running out of time before their GCSEs.

We work directly with SENCOs, inclusion leads, heads of year, and DSLs — understanding the full picture before the first session begins.

How We Can Support Your Students

SEND & EHCP Support

One-to-one tuition matched to the student’s specific profile of need — including ASC, ADHD, SEMH, dyslexia, and SLCN — and aligned to EHCP outcomes. Students get support that works around how they learn, building confidence and making progress against their targets.

School Non-Attendance & EBSA

Flexible, home-based or hybrid support for students who are unable to attend school. We start where the student is, building engagement and confidence progressively — with reintegration into school the goal wherever it is appropriate.

Learn More

Academic Catch-Up & GCSE Support

Targeted one-to-one and small group tuition for students requiring academic catch-up, GCSE preparation, or Pupil Premium intervention. Every programme is built around the individual student’s starting point and aligned to your school’s targets.

Learn More

Looked-After Children

Consistent, relationship-led support for looked-after children, aligned to PEP targets. For young people who have experienced significant disruption, the right tutor — and the consistency of that relationship — often makes the difference.

Alternative Provision

Personalised tuition for students who cannot access mainstream school, delivered in-home, in-school, or online. Reintegration is planned from the outset — not treated as a separate phase.

Our Process

A clear, consistent path from first conversation to ongoing support — so you always know what happens next and who’s accountable at every stage.

Understand

We take time to understand the student — their educational needs, circumstances, and what the school or council needs from the programme.

Plan

We develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP), aligned to EHCP targets where applicable, and agree reporting format and cadence with you from the outset.

Match

We match the student to the right tutor based on subject knowledge, experience, and the right fit for their specific needs.

Support

We stay involved throughout, adapting the programme as needs change and keeping your team informed at every stage.

The Tutor Doctor Difference

Every school and local authority we work with has different pressures, priorities, and students. Our approach is built around one consistent commitment: a local team that stays directly involved, moves quickly when it matters, and remains invested in your students throughout.

We're Accountable.

When you work with Tutor Doctor, there's always a named person responsible for your school's programme — someone who knows your students, understands your priorities, and is directly reachable when something changes.

We're Responsive.

Schools and councils need support that moves at their pace. Enquiries are answered the same day, placements are typically arranged within days, and if a student's circumstances change mid-programme, our local teams adapt quickly.

We're Invested.

We attend reviews, adapt programmes as circumstances change, and stay involved for as long as a school needs us. Some of our partnerships have run for over a decade — because that kind of continuity makes a real difference to the students who need it most.

National Reach with Local Accountability

Tutor Doctor combines national infrastructure with locally delivered support, giving schools and local authorities direct access to responsive teams who remain involved throughout each programme.
