Supporting Pupils with SEND

The students referred to us for SEND support often have overlapping needs that don’t fit neatly into a single category — and many have already experienced provision that couldn’t sustain the relationship when things got difficult.

We support pupils across a wide range of profiles, including:

Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
ADHD
Dyslexia
SEMH
SLCN
Other neurodiverse profiles

Working directly with SENCOs, inclusion leads, and heads of department, we ensure we understand the full picture before the first session begins.

What Schools Can Expect

You’ll work directly with someone from your local team who knows your students, understands your SEND priorities, and stays involved throughout.

From the first session onward, you’ll always know who’s responsible, how each student is progressing, and what happens next.

When a concern is raised — however small — someone with authority acts immediately. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is involved in every SEND placement from the outset.

A tutor report submitted after every session

Termly progress reviews aligned to EHCP targets

Attendance at EHCP reviews and multi-agency meetings where invited

Proactive contact when something changes

Increased communication for complex or vulnerable students — including direct liaison with SENCOs, social workers, or CAMHS where relevant

Progress data feeding directly into EHCP annual reviews where applicable

How We Approach SEND Support

Every SEND placement begins with a full understanding of the student — not just their EHCP targets and current levels, but what has and hasn’t worked before, how they engage, and what a good session looks like for them.

Tutor and pupil
1

Build a whole-student profile

Developed with the school, covering academic targets and the barriers the student faces.

2

Make proactive family contact

When appropriate, we contact the family before the first session to introduce ourselves, learn about the student as a person, and build trust on all sides.

3

Create an Individual Learning Plan

An ILP aligned to EHCP outcomes, reviewed regularly throughout the programme.

4

Match the right tutor

Matched on experience and suitability for the student’s specific profile of need — not just subject knowledge.

5

Agree reporting with the school

Format and cadence agreed from the outset, so everyone knows what to expect.

Support is delivered wherever the student engages — at home, in school, or online — and for pupils awaiting a specialist placement we provide interim continuity of education so no child falls through the gap. Diagnostic assessment and personalised pathway mapping build an evidence base that feeds directly into EHCP annual reviews.

Our Process

A clear, consistent path from first conversation to ongoing support — so you always know what happens next and who’s accountable at every stage.

Understand

We take time to understand the student — their educational needs, circumstances, and what the school or council needs from the programme.

Plan

We develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP), aligned to EHCP targets where applicable, and agree reporting format and cadence with you from the outset.

Match

We match the student to the right tutor based on subject knowledge, experience, and the right fit for their specific needs.

Support

We stay involved throughout, adapting the programme as needs change and keeping your team informed at every stage.

We highly value our collaboration with Tutor Doctor in supporting our students to achieve their potential. We have always found Tutor Doctor to be friendly, professional, and adaptable to the varying needs of the students, as well as our needs as an institution. We have been very pleased with the quality of the tutors sourced for our students, the communication from Tutor Doctor, and for the results that they help the students to achieve. As such, we highly recommend Tutor Doctor to other schools.
